Daejeon Hospitals Achieve High Marks in Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service Evaluation

The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) has conducted assessments since 2006 to enhance public health by managing medical service quality. In the 10th Acute Stroke Assessment conducted this year, hospitals in the Daejeon region achieved excellent results. Stroke, a condition with high mortality risk and potential for severe disability requires prompt and appropriate treatment and management.

HIRA's 10th assessment evaluated 249 hospitals at the general hospital level or higher. Among the hospitals evaluated, Chungnam National University Hospital, Daejeon Eulji Medical Center, Eulji University, and Daejeon St. Mary's Hospital, affiliated with The Catholic University of Korea, received the highest grade of 1. The evaluation focused on six key areas, including the availability of essential personnel and facilities for acute stroke treatment, the timely administration of thrombolytic therapy to dissolve blood clots blocking cerebral blood vessels, and the implementation of early rehabilitation to minimize disability. Chungnam National University Hospital scored an overall 99.98 points, surpassing the national average (88.13 points) and the average score for advanced general hospitals (99.64 points). Daejeon Eulji Medical Center, Eulji University, received a perfect score of 100 in all five process indicators, including intravenous thrombolytic therapy administration rate, early rehabilitation evaluation rate, and functional assessment at discharge. Additionally, the hospital earned a top grade for two consecutive years in the medication appropriateness evaluation. Daejeon St. Mary's Hospital has been recognized for its expertise in stroke treatment, achieving the top grade for ten consecutive assessments since the evaluation's inception.

Sun Medical Center also received the highest grade from HIRA in anesthesia and intensive care unit (ICU) evaluations. In the third anesthesia appropriateness evaluation, the Hospital achieved a perfect score of 100, marking three consecutive top grades. In the fourth ICU appropriateness evaluation, the hospital scored 97.5 points, earning the highest grade once again.
