Opening of 'Medical Data Safe Zone' with Konyang University Hospital, Anticipated Growth in Digital Healthcare Industry

Daejeon City is promoting the utilization of medical data to foster the growth of the regional digital healthcare industry.

On May 21, Daejeon City, in collaboration with Konyang University Hospital, inaugurated the 'Medical Data Safe Zone.'

The 'Medical Data Safe Zone' is a facility designed to support local businesses and others in utilizing medical data, which is typically difficult to access due to privacy concerns. This facility was established after Daejeon City and Konyang University Hospital were selected for the 'K-Health AI Services and Industrial Ecosystem Construction Project for National Healthcare' by the Ministry of Science and ICT last year.

The facility collects and processes medical, health, and healthcare data from Konyang University Hospital and other participating medical institutions. This data is provided in a secure, closed environment, allowing companies and researchers to use it confidently. The facility is equipped with 22 individual analysis rooms, four group analysis rooms, and GPU computing resources to meet the needs of businesses and researchers for convenient data utilization.

Daejeon City plans to invest 13.3 billion KRW, including 10 billion KRW in national funding, by 2027. The investment aims to establish a cloud-based medical information linkage and utilization platform, build a data safe zone, and create a network to exchange medical information among primary, secondary, and tertiary medical institutions. This initiative is expected to support businesses and provide services to citizens.

Lee Jang-woo, the Mayor of Daejeon, stated, “The Medical Data Safe Zone will play a leading role in Daejeon's leap forward as an AI-integrated medical innovation city. We will actively support it to become a medical data hub that attracts attention nationwide. We also encourage local medical institutions and healthcare companies to show great interest and participate actively.”
