Daejeon Marketing Corporation, which was instrumental in revitalizing the local economy through tourism, festivals, and MICE, was relaunched in January 2022 as the Daejeon Tourism Corporation. The Daejeon Tourism Organization will work to make Daejeon a city where residents are happy and visitors want to stay, as well as to fulfill our function and role as a tourism control tower by promoting both domestic and international tourism.
To begin, we intend to expand intrabound tourism by capitalizing on Daejeon's characteristics as a transportation hub, thereby strengthening the role of tourism bases in neighboring cities such as administrative city Sejong and defense city Gyeryong, as well as a tourist destination in the central region. Additionally, the international conference complex is being designated, and meeting technology is being promoted through initiatives such as the construction of the Daejeon Convention Center's second exhibition hall and the implementation of the digital twin-based metaverse MICE service. As the Daejeon UCLG World Federation of Local Governments General Assembly will be held in October with 5,000 delegates from 140 countries worldwide, we intend to establish Daejeon as the best MICE-driven tourism destination through the successful hosting of an international event.
Daejeon Medical Business Council and Digital Healthcare Forum
Daejeon Tourism Organization's medical tourism business is also being diversified through digital transformation. Following the success of last year, the Medical Business Council and Digital Healthcare Forum met monthly this year, with approximately 30 organizations participating, including medical institutions, bio-health care companies, and information technology companies, thereby responding to changing healthcare trends through lectures delivered by experts in the field of digital healthcare and continuing to discuss opportunities for collaboration in each field.
Kang Seongji, CEO of WELT Co., Ltd., delivered a lecture on the trends and future of digital healthcare in February under the title 'The future of digital healthcare as seen through CES 2022,' emphasizing the importance of care. Doo-Ah Choi, CEO of Huraypositive Co., Ltd., a market leader in domestic digital health care, and insurance companies such as Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and Hyundai Marine & Marine Insurance, prepared a lecture to share knowledge with organizations attending the forum in March.
Promoting to United States Forces Korea
We are conducting comprehensive promotional activities for medical tourism, aimed at the USFK, their companions, and their families residing in Korea. The Daejeon Tourism Organization is promoting beauty products made with Daejeon's unique medical technology, as well as check-up medical products specializing in women's cancer, with a focus on the USFK community. Daejeon wellness tourist attractions and health check-up products were featured in the March issue of the Health Living Guide, a newspaper published by the US Department of Defense, to pre-promote to US forces in Korea. We intend to hold a Fam Tour centered on the US Military Women's Association in May and October, in conjunction with Daejeon's representative festival, to promote Daejeon as a wellness tourism destination.
