Trip to Daejeon with a Focus on Science
Daejeon, known as the Science City, is home to over 2,000 different research institutions, including 30 that are funded by the government. Using this scientific infrastructure, the Daejeon Tourism Organization hosts Daejeon Science Tour (DST) and Daejeon Science Festival (DSF) annually to give locals easy access to a wide range of activities centered on science and related culture.
Daejeon Science Tour (DST)
This year's Daejeon Science Tour (DST), which runs from July to the end of November, is a science tourism program that departs from the typical tourism schedule in order to take participants to related institutions based on the themes of The Cosmos, The Earth, and The Virus. The program is designed to enable participants to become reporters and share their experiences by providing them with theme-specific science lectures, career mentoring, and visits to government-funded research institutes.
Visits to the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, the National Science Museum, and the Daejeon Citizens Observatory are all part of the inaugural 'Would you like to board the Artemis?' program, which is themed around space exploration. The 'How to Save the One and Only Earth' program, based on the idea of a 'second earth,' proposes a series of lectures given by experts in the field of life sciences and visits to research facilities, as well as hands-on experiences with cutting-edge scientific and technological solutions to the world's pressing environmental problems. Can Humans Coexist with Viruses? is the third virus-related program, and it features lectures and visits from biotechnology experts such as those from the Biotechnology Research Institute and the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine.
The Daejeon Science Tour includes a visit to the government-funded research institute, Shinsegae Nexperium, the National Science Museum, the Daejeon Citizens Observatory, and a campus tour led by KAIST ambassador Kainuri. The Daejeon Science Tour has established itself as a unique tourism program that can only be experienced in the Science City Daejeon, thanks to its engaging content that makes science more accessible and enjoyable for visitors.
Daejeon Science Festival
The Science Festival, which celebrates its twelfth anniversary this year, is Daejeon's signature science and culture festival, held from October 20 to 23 at the Daejeon Convention Center, Expo Science Park, Daedeok Special District, and the original downtown area. Beginning with the lighting display of 300 drones at the opening ceremony, this festival attracts a large number of visitors each year who can participate in numerous science-related activities.
At the Future Technology Experience Center, various experiences utilizing various future science technologies, such as NFT, AI robot, drone coding, VR, and AR, are held, as well as the World Science and Culture Forum, where visitors can attend lectures on the latest scientific and technological research by world-renowned scholars, and the global university debate to discuss the use of science and technology to solve various global problems. The 'Cine Science Concert' is a unique film-viewing program of the Science Festival where visitors can watch films and learn about the science behind them from actual scientists. In addition, the Daejeon Tourism Organization has planned a variety of cultural events for visitors, including Science Room Escape, Robot Land, and Titan Robot Performance.
This year's Science Festival has been designated as a '2022 Regional Specialized International Event Competition Project' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, and a global science tour for foreigners will be held concurrently. Beginning with the Daejeon Convention Center Future Technology Experience Center, we are operating a unique tour program that encompasses the past and the present, beginning with the Soje-dong emotional tour that preserves the image of Daejeon 100 years ago. We also anticipate a large number of foreign tourists.
